About Us

Who We are

For more than 75 years, the Houston Junior Forum (HJF) has led initiatives and provided services for children, youth, women, and senior adults. With a membership of over 350 talented women, we are dedicated to serving the community through effective fundraising campaigns, collaborations with other Houston nonprofits, and a strong commitment to achieving our goal of empowering Houstonians to improve their lives. The proceeds from The City Market will contribute to funding both current and upcoming programs by HJF, including the HJF College Scholarship Fund, the HJF Community Grants Program, and HJF’s newest initiative, Daily Essentials – Everyday Confidence.

How Do We Serve?

In addition to performing service for our charitable partner organizations, the HJF College Scholarship Program and the HJF Community Grants Program provide financial support for students and other nonprofit organizations. Since its inception, the College Scholarship Program has awarded almost $1.5 million to deserving students who attended the HJF Community Preschool. The Community Preschool was the first program in Houston to focus on Prekindergarten students in Houston’s Hispanic Community. The curriculum focused on teaching English to the young students to help prepare them for public school. With the support of their families and HJF College Scholarship Committee coordinators, our scholarship recipients have become part of a tradition of higher education that will enrich their lives and those of future generations.

In the 10 years since its beginning, HJF’s Community Grants Program has awarded over $640,000 to other nonprofit organizations in the greater Houston area. Through our partnerships with these groups that share common philanthropic ideals, HJF has been instrumental in helping nonprofits assist thousands of children, youth, women, and seniors. The Houston Junior Forum Resale Shop, located in The Heights at 1815 Rutland, provides not only the opportunity for patrons to purchase gently used furniture, clothing, antiques, home goods, and accessories, but it is a business that fosters a community of caring. On any given day, you will find our customers stopping by to engage in conversation and fun with our volunteers and staff. Proceeds from the HJF Resale Shop help support the College Scholarship Program and the Community Grants Program. Proceeds from fundraising events, such as The City Market, our Resale Shop, and direct donations enable us to increase our outreach and allow us to give back to the Houston community.
